5 Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Hotline Miami was one of my favorite games of 2012 and one of the best indie games of all time. So when I heard that there was a sequel in the works, I got excited.  Hotline Miami 2, like most of my favorite games this year, has an amazing soundtrack filled with music that really fits the game’s time period. While the gameplay is pretty much the same as the last one, but as the old saying goes, if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

4 Bloodborne

What can I say about Bloodborne that I haven’t already said in my review? With its fantastic art style and amazing gameplay, Bloodborne is a must own for any PS4 owner.

3 Fallout 4

Fallout 4 was probably one of the most anticipated games of the year and I think it lived up to the hype. Its brand new crafting system, characters to fall in love with, a huge open world with loads of content make it the best game in the series so far. I guess you can say I have uranium fever.

2 Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Steam (the platform I play the game on) says I’ve already played Phantom Pain for over 160 hours, if that doesn’t tell you how much I love this game I don’t know what will. This is without a doubt the best open world game I have ever played. The game gives you so much freedom to complete objectives, or in my case, mess around.

Honorable mentions

Star Wars: Battlefront

Rocket League

Westerado: Double Barreled

Ghost in the Shell: First Assault – Stand Alone Complex Online

1 Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 5 was the game I was most looking forward to, I even did a retrospective on the series leading up to 5 that never finished because I was too busy playing this game. The soundtrack is amazing, the characters old and new are engaging, the gameplay and multiplayer are the best in the series. Sure, the story may end on a cliffhanger like in Halo 2 but this time the ending to 5 actually feels like an ending and not something that just rushed out. While I love Halo 4, I will admit the multiplayer was going through an identity crisis, but now the multiplayer in 5 feels like its own beast. Now I just need to survive until Halo 6.
