Super Bowl Preview: Rams vs Patriots – Round 2

Sports editor Peyton Monroe makes his prediction about the Super Bowl.

This Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, there will be a great defensive matchup between the New England Patriots, who are led by Free Safety Devin McCourtey, and the Los Angeles Rams.

Breakout corner back Stephon Gilmore, who leads the corner back group of the Pats, was voted as an AP All Pro this season.

The Patriots will take on the boys from the Bay area: the Los Angeles Rams, who are coming off of a fantastic season where they are led by third year quarterback Jarred Goff and potential MVP winner Todd Gurley.

The Rams also have two of the best defensive linemen in the game today. Defensive end Aaron Donald was a first round pick by the Rams back in 2014, and defensive tackle  Ndamukong Suh, who has been wreaking havoc on opposing offenses since entering the league back in 2010 with the Detroit Lions.

The Patriots are coming off of an 11-5 season while the Rams come into this game with a 13-3 record.

This year’s bout will be the first time the Rams are in the Super Bowl since 2002 where they lost to the Patriots 20-17 on a last second kick by Pats’ kicker Adam Vinatieri and a young Tom Brady won his very first ring.

An interesting story coming into this game is Rams wide receiver Brandin Cooks. Cooks was drafted out of Oregon State by the New Orleans Saints who some say were robbed of a Super Bowl trip after a blatant missed pass interference call in the NFC Championship. The Saints traded Cooks to the Patriots for a first round pick. After one season with Patriots and a Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Cooks was then traded to the Rams for a fourth round pick. Cooks recently posted on Instagram where he met with one of the Rams’ custodians and presented him with two plane tickets and two tickets to the game for the custodian and his son.

My prediction for the final score for the game is

Rams: 37

Patriots: 34

MVP: Either Todd Gurley or Jarred Goff.
