The Panola College Pi Beta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is sponsoring “Hooked on Books,” a children’s book drive from now until the end of the spring 2018 semester. The PTK service project will collect new and gently used children’s books to donate to local daycare centers and after-school programs.

“We are especially asking for children’s books that are appropriate for early childhood through sixth grade readers,” said Emily Zabcik, one of the faculty sponsors of PTK. “We hope to spread the love of reading to young children so that their passion for learning will grow. Many children do not have access to books in their environment or the books may be well-used and in need of replacement.”

The drop-off locations for donated books will be in the Monk Science Building and in the Charles C. Matthews Foundation Student Center. Look for the blue tub at the front desk of the Student Center and in the lobby of the Monk Building.

Panola College students, including members of the Panola College Fillies Volleyball team, have been actively involved in the Carthage ISD after-school program called AYEP for several years. AYEP is one of the programs that will benefit from this project.

“Our mission with ‘Hooked on Books’ is to inspire children to learn to love reading and to promote the love of learning and knowledge,” said Zabcik.
