Benjamin Franklin said it best when he stated, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”

Even though graduating from college seems like years away, it is important to prepare for the future. One big way to begin prepping is financial planning. The next step after graduating from college is to find a real job. Most of these jobs will only pay once a month, so in other words, it requires a budget to be set to pay all the expenses that are coming at the end of the month. This may seem overwhelming, but there are a few apps to help make budgeting simpler.

For iPhone users a highly recommended app on the App Store is Goodbudget Budget Planner. It allows the user to input all the expenses that will come out for that month, which in turn helps them determine if there is enough money in the bank account to cover all the expenses. An app that is recommended for Android users is Mint: Budget, Bills and Finance, which is available on Google Play. An app that is available to iPhone and Android users is Stay on Budget. These apps make budgeting less time-consuming and easier to manage.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau offers free budgeting strategies and tools to help people meet their financial goals. This link provides a budget worksheet to help people get started.

Learning how to manage money is an important part of adulthood, so begin to prepare now. As Benjamin Franklin put it, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.”
