Ponies start 2020 strong

A strong second half pushed the Ponies past Paris.

The Ponies hosted Lee College on Friday January 3 and came away with a 93-79 victory.  Sixteen made 3-Point field goals helped seal the deal.  Jermaine Drewey’s hot shooting early set the tone for the rest of the game. Drewey led the way with 23 points (7-12 3PFG).  He was joined in double figures by Kamari Brown with 21 points (6-8 3PFG) and Christopher Coley with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

Two days later the men traveled to Brenham for their game vs Blinn College.  It was the Ponies’ shooting in the second half that enabled the come-from-behind victory, 99-89.  The Ponies were 10-14 in the second half from 3-point range.  Kelyn Pennie and Kamari Brown led the way with 23 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds, and 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively.  The were joined in double figures by Jermaine Drewey with 13 points and 5 rebounds, Jerrel Kelly with 12 points and 5 rebounds, and Dominique Jackson with 11 points.

Following Monday’s road victory, the Ponies hosted Angelina on Wednesday, Jan. 8, and dropped a hard fought contest, 97-89.  After the loss the team traveled to Beeville on Friday, Jan. 10, for a Saturday contest vs Coastal Bend.  The men dropped that game 86-80.

On Wednesday January 15, Paris came to Carthage and the Ponies used a 64-point second half to win 91-80.  Panola was led in scoring by Jermaine Drewey with 23 points and 5 rebounds and Cameron Carson with 22 points.  Kelyn Pennie scored 18 and dished out 5 assists and grabbed six rebounds.  Joining them in double figures was Christopher Coley with 11 points and 4 assists.

With the win, Panola moves to 15-4 on the year and 6-2 in Region XIV play.

The Ponies will travel to Kilgore on Saturday, Jan. 18 for their game vs the Rangers.  Tip is set for 4 p.m.
