Panola Team invited to San Antonio Rodeo


Logan Cook is one of eight Panola College rodeo team members invited to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo.

The San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo will showcase top collegiate rodeo teams Sunday, Feb. 12, and Panola College Rodeo Team members have been invited to participate. One of the largest Rodeos in the world, the San Antonio event will showcase teams from across the Southern and Southwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.

Eight Panola College athletes will participate in the Sunday afternoon rodeo. Representing Panola will be Abby Phillips of Marshall in barrel racing, Logan Cook of Alto in saddle bronc and calf roping, Travis Chapman of Woodville in bareback; Fulton Rutland of Stillwell, Okla. in bullriding, Laramie Johnson of Shreveport in breakaway calf roping and team roping, caleb Cogbill of Orange in steer wrestling, and Taylor Gooch of Hemphill in goat tying.

Other teams competing include Southern Region teams: Sam Houston State University, Texas A&M University, McNeese State University, Texas A&M Kingsville, Hill College, Wharton Junior College, LSU-Alexandria, Texas A&M-Commerce, Southwest Texas Junior College, Trinity Valley Community College and Northeast Texas Community College.

Southwest Region teams include Tarleton State University, Texas Tech University, Sul Ross, New Mexico Junior College, Weatherford College, Odessa College, Vernon College, Western Texas College, Eastern New Mexico, Cisco College, Ranger College, Clarendon College, North Central College, Howard College, West Texas A&M, Frank Phillips College, and South Plains College.
