Panola Men overcome Lamar State Port Arthur

After a back and forth affair, the Panola Ponies were able to pull away with a 79-71 victory over Lamar State Port Arthur on Wednesday, Dec. 5 in the A.J. Johnson Gymnasium.

The Ponies led 33-31 at halftime. Lamar State came out hot in the second half and were able to build a 69-61 lead with 5:16 left in the game. It was all Ponies from there on out. An 18-2 run to finish the game pushed the Ponies to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in Region XIV play.

Tylan Dean led the Ponies with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Lenell Henry had another double double effort with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Tariq Simmons added 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Kamari Brown came off the bench to add 10 points, 7 rebounds, and a game winning steal and assist with just over a minute to play.

The Ponies now have the rest of December idle, and will return to the court on January 1 at 7 p.m. in a non-conference match-up against Central Baptist JV.
