Need a study buddy — a four-legged, furry friend? Three gorgeous Golden Retrievers will be on hand at the M.P. Baker Library from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 8 and 9. These “Therapet” dogs — Elvis, Bugsy and Diva — are specially trained to provide stress-relief. Their owner Gina Smith is participating in a nationwide effort to help relieve student stress during finals week.

Librarian Cristie Ferguson says the M.P. Baker Library will be open for extended hours until midnight Sunday and Monday, May 5-6; until 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7; and until 10 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8. The library will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, the last day of finals. The library will also provide free coffee during the extended hours.

Ferguson said, “Several colleges and universities around the country have been offering the service recently and it’s been well-received. Some articles feature waiting lines of students wanting to pet the dogs. Instructors who need a break are also welcome to come enjoy these beautiful Golden Retrievers.”
