The M.P. Baker Library has added a 3D printer for use by faculty, staff and students. The MakerBot Replicator machine is capable of creating a physical object from a three-dimensional digital model.

“Students will not be charged to create items needed for their classes,” said Cristie Ferguson, Librarian.

The charge for personal use is $0.1 per gram for regular colors of filament and $.02 per gram for glow-in-the-dark filament.

Ferguson provided the following instructions for people interested in trying out the printer. The file must be prepared in advance and stored on a flash drive to take to the library.

  1. Download software: https://www.makerbot.com/download-print/
  2. Go to www.thingiverse.com to choose an item.
  3. Open the file using the software you downloaded.
  4. Make adjustments to your file if you want.
  5. Save the file to a flash drive.
  6. Bring the flash drive to the second floor desk in the library.
  7. A library staff member will assist you.
