For the first time, students who qualify for Pell Grant educational funding will be allowed to tap into those grant funds for summer school beginning in Summer 1 and 2, 2018.
Denise Welch, Panola College Financial Aid director, said students receiving Pell Grants must be aware of the lifetime cap on these grant funds. For students planning to pursue bachelors’ degrees, using funds for summer school may impact the availability of remaining funds in future semesters. Each student’s circumstances will be different. For those working on certificates or associate degrees, using Pell Grant funds for summer school at Panola will most likely not be a problem, according to Welch.
