Panola College will hold its Fall 2015 Commencement at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 10 at the Carthage Civic Center.  In this 76th commencement ceremony, Panola College will award 309 degrees and certificates to students who have completed the required academic and technical coursework for their chosen field.

The commencement program will recognize outstanding students who have achieved Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, or Summa Cum Laude status for academic excellence, along with those who have been inducted into Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity.

Dr. Gregory Powell, Panola College President, will present this year’s Distinguished Alumnus Award to Dr. Danny Paul Windham of Center. Upon completion of his studies at Panola College, Windham graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, and completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He has practiced dentistry in Center for 35 years.

As part of commencement, Sandra Bauer, Music Professor, will lead the choir in singing the Alma Mater, and Don Cocklin, Psychology Professor, will provide the invocation. Dr. Powell will preside over the ceremonies and confer degrees after Dr. Joe Shannon, Vice President of Instruction, certifies the graduates. Dr. Kathy Watlington, Professor of Foreign Languages, will present the graduates while Dr. Powell awards the diplomas. Freddy Mason, Dean of Liberal Arts & Sciences, will conclude the ceremony with a benediction.

Members of the Panola College Board of Trustees include William Goolsby, Chairman; Hal Palmer, Vice Chairman; Evelyn Sharp, Secretary; Richard Thomas; Bobby Phillips; Glendell Chadwick; and Kevin Smith.

Health Science graduates will receive their pins from Karen McClellan, RN, M.Ed., Professor of ADN; Shelbea Comer, RN, BSN, Associate Chair and Instructor of LVN; JoEllen Russell, MBA, MT, Chair and Professor of Medical Technologies; Lynn Davis, RHIT, CCS, Instructor, Health Information Technology; and Shelly Alexander, RN, Instructor, Medical Assisting.

Degree candidates for the Class of 2015, fall semester, include five Associate of Arts in Teaching; 56 Associate of Science; 16 Associate of Applied Science-Associate Degree Nursing; two Associate of Applied Science-Electrical and Instrumentation Technology; four Associate of Applied Science-General Business; three Associate of Applied Science-Health Information Technology/Technician; three Associate of Applied Science-Medical Assisting; two Associate of Applied Science-Clinical/Medical Laboratory Technician; 23 Associate of Applied Science-Occupational Therapy Assistant; one Associate of Applied Science-Office Professional (Medical Option); two Associate of Applied Science-Office Professional; 22 Associate of Applied Science-Petroleum Technology; and two Associate of Applied Science-Welding Technology.

Others include six Certificate of Completion-Administrative Assistant; three Certificate of Completion-Advanced Welding; 25 Certificate of Completion-Basic Welding; eight Certificate of Completion-Cosmetology Operator; one Certificate of Completion-Early Childhood Professions; four Certificate of Completion-General Business; six Certificate of Completion-General Office; one Certificate of Completion; 11 Certificate of Completion-Intermediate Welding; two Certificate of Completion-Marketable Skills; 13 Certificate of Completion-Medical Assisting; four Certificate of Completion-Medical Coding Technician; one Certificate of Completion-Microcomputer Software Operator; one Certificate of Completion-Microcomputer Support Specialist; seven Certificate of Completion-Natural Gas Compression I; 21 Certificate of Completion-Petroleum Technician I; 21 Certificate of Completion-Petroleum Technology II; 32 Certificate of Completion-Vocational Nursing; and one Certificate of Completion-Welding Helper.
