Center celebrates Poultry Festival

Center recently celebrated the annual Poultry Festival.

The sun was high in the sky, and as the moon came out the temperatures cooled off a bit, creating a perfect environment for the 40th Annual Poultry Festival.

The Poultry Festival is a celebration dedicated to the Poultry industry that is a cornerstone of the East Texas economy. In a quiet town like Center, it serves as a marvelous excuse for people to leave their homes and socialize with one another, oftentimes while enjoying the variety of foodstuffs offered or while perusing the plethora of booths and games available.

Food booths were concentrated near the dining area. The diverse food booths ranged from hamburgers, to fish platters, to the classic funnel cake. The carnival rides were located on the opposite side of the square and included the Kamikaze, a Ferris wheel, and bumper cars, as well as other things.

A variety of local artisans offered their wares. These wares included jewelry, accessory tables, and raffles. Representatives from Panola College staffed a booth to distribute information that serves Shelby County, in addition to selling tickets for a purse raffle.
