Panola College celebrated a record year with 333 candidates for graduation completing their studies in the spring or summer semesters. Of that total, 182 participated in Commencement at the Carthage Civic Center at 7 p.m., Friday, May 13.

States represented by the graduates included Texas with 311, Louisiana with 14, California with two, the U.S. Virgin Islands with two, and one each from Florida, Michigan, New Jersey and Ohio. Degrees awarded included 101 associate of science degrees, eight associate of arts in teaching degrees, 97 associate of applied science degrees, and 127 certificates.

Students graduating summa cum laude achieved a 4.0-3.9 GPA, those with magna cum laude achieved 3.75-3.89 GPA, and cum laude earned 3.5-3.74 GPA.

Jessica Pace, Director of Institutional Advancement, introduced the 2016 Alumna of the Year, Dr. Berri O’Neal. Dr. Gregory Powell congratulated the graduates on their achievements and encouraged them to make Panola College a family tradition.

Board members participating in the ceremony included William Goolsby, chair; Hal Palmer, vice chair; Evelyn Sharp, secretary, Richard Thomas and Glendell Chadwick.
