Sparks fly in welding contest

High school welding students from around the region competed in a skills contest at Panola College on Thursday, Feb. 7.

First place winner was Jake Wheeler from Buna High School with 172 points. Second place winner, with 169 points, was Ethan Sekaly from Many, LA. Taking home third place honors was Bryce Tippett from Buna with 165 points.

Carthage High School welders made it to the top five. Jake Stillwell had 163 points for fourth place, while Nick Anderson took fifth place with 156 points.
