The Panola College Student Government Association is holding a drive to support Operation Gratitude, a nonprofit organization that sends gifts to U.S. troops overseas and to their families at home. Donation tables are set up on campus during the Civil War Reenactment event, and SGA members will continue to collect donations through the end of October.
Students will be invited to make financial donations, and/or sign postcards, sending messages of support to the troops. SGA members will also create paracord woven bracelets for the troops.
“Operation Gratitude hopes to send a paracord bracelet with every care package,” said Jessica Soto, SGA President. “These woven bracelets are a neat accessory, but more importantly, they can be used as life saving devices in emergency situations.”
The College Store is providing the postcards that students can use to write a note to currently deployed service members, wounded warriors or veterans.
Online or commuting students who don’t regular visit the campus are invited to participate by mailing their donations to Brian Naples, Panola College, 1109 West Panola, Carthage, TX 75633.
Naples and Becky Gullette are two instructors who are offering extra credit to students who fill out a postcard and donate one gift to the project.
