The Panola College Rodeo Team starts the spring 2017 season with a rodeo at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11. Slack begins at noon and performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The team will compete in five rodeo events this spring. Panola has several cowboys and cowgirls ranked in the top five, and several in striking distance going into the second half. These team members will be fighting for the top three spots to qualify for the College National Finals.

Barrel racer Abby Phillips of Marshall is currently ranked second, Logan Cook of Alto is currently ranked third in saddle bronc, and Travis Chapman of Woodville is ranked fourth in bareback competition.

Several other athletes on the team have a chance to have a great spring circuit and get back in the mix, according to Jeff Collins, Head Rodeo Coach.

Rodeo athletes traveling to Athens for this weekend’s event include Ethan Andrepoint, Dillon Baise, Kaycee Bailey, R.D. Carter, Travis Chapman, Caleb Cogbill, Logan Cook, Taylor Gooch, Lara Elliott, Lane Holeman, Colton Johnson, Laramie Johnson, Braden Jackson, Chance McMahon, Zae Lewis, Zach Moore, Abby Phillips, Bailey Plaiser, Rowdy Murray, Fulton Rutland, Kaycee Richard, Shana Smith, Shilo Stone and Payton Collins.
