Monday night, Feb. 25, in a game played at Mike Carter Field in Tyler, the Panola Ponies’ baseball team lost to the Tyler Junior College Apaches, 8-6.

Splendora’s Tyler Stallings, South Grand Prairie’s Adam Atkins, and Hallsville’s Jesse Hanson pitched for the Ponies, with Hanson taking the loss.

Offensively, Spring Hill’s Greg Martens posted another sparkling performance from the lead-off spot. Martens worked Apache pitchers for two walks, doubled in two runs, and stole three bases while scoring once himself. Carthage’s Jacob Blissett and Clint Cage each had three hits, with Cage adding two RBI. Derrian “Boom” James (Beaumont) doubled, scored, and drove in a run, while Vidor’s Hunter Hagler singled, reached base on an error, and scored twice.

Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Ponies hit the road again for a conference twin bill in Bossier City against the BPCC Cavaliers.  Game time is 1 pm. Saturday, March 2, the Ponies play a conference double header against Navarro in Corsicana. The first game begins at 1 pm.

Coach Todd Shelton’s charges are 6-7 on the season. They continue to sit atop the Region 14 standings with a 3-1 conference record.
