Pipers, Jazz Band combine for Christmas show

  • Christmas in Carthage, performed by the Panola Pipers and the Panola Jazz Ensemble, is a holiday tradition. (Teresa Beasley)

Panola Pipers and Panola College Jazz Band collaborated for the 2012 Christmas in Carthage event on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Carthage Civic Center.

More than 200 people attended the dinner and show, enjoying individual performances by singers during the meal. Members of the Pipers served the meal and visited with guests prior to the show. Chorale Director Sandra Bauer introduced the show and thanked Mike McGowan, Panola College Band Director, and the members of the Jazz Band for adding their musical talents to this year’s event.

The show included traditional Christmas favorites, with special musical arrangements by McGowan. Sara Haire, Megan Morrison, Trenton Wall, and Allie Szabo were featured soloists.

Members of the Panola Pipers are Willie Edwards, Sara Haire, Katrina Regan, Charity Lenox, Megan Morrison, Tess Mathis, Jaymie Coleman, Kalin Fodge, Allie Szabo and Dennis Brown.

Members of the Panola Jazz Ensemble are Chris Ward, drums; Raderrius Colbert, trombone; Skylar Williams, trumpet; Faustina Angel, French horn; Rachel Mukweyi, vibes, piano and xylophone; Jeremy Gressman, bass; Ross Reynolds, alto saxophone; Kayla Hallman, flute and tenor saxophone; and Mike McGowan, baritone saxophone.

Shawn Simonson served as sound technician for the show. More photos are posted in the Christmas in Carthage 2012 Photo Gallery.
