EDITOR’S NOTE: Revised location. Spring Fling will be held in front of the Charles C. Matthews Foundation Student Center this year. The street in front of the Student Center will be blocked off for all activities.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 8 for the annual Spring Fling. Events will begin at 11 a.m. and run through 1 p.m. Spring Fling is a time to sit back, relax, and procrastinate a little longer on your midterm studying. An annual celebration held each Spring in the middle of midterm week, this event was created to give students and faculty a welcome moment of fun in the middle of an otherwise busy time.
This year continues that tradition with several games and activities planned by Jody Harris, Student Activities Coordinator. Activities range from a pie eating contest, to minute to win it games. Singers are invited to compete in a “riff-off” party game. Here’s how it works: one person starts singing a song, and the next person has to take a word from that song and match it to a word in another song and start singing.
There will be free food and drink provided by Sodexo, Panola’s dining hall company.
Several school organizations have planned fun activities as well. The History Club will have face painting, and Phi Theta Kappa will host a photo booth. Area organizations and businesses will also host informational booths.
Last but not least, Carter BloodCare will hold a blood drive from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Those who choose to give blood will receive a voucher for a free pint of Blue Bell Ice Cream. These vouchers are only available while supplies last so students should be sure to make it to the blood drive early. A photo ID will be required to donate blood.
There will not be a health fair concurrent with Spring Fling, although information booths will provide health-related materials.
