The Howl After Dark returns as a monthly event hosted by the Media Arts Club at the Dawg House Cafe.  The Howl is an open-mic night event where students are invited to perform music, skits, sing, or even share stories and poetry.  The dates for the Howls this semester are all from 7pm to 9:30pm on February 8, March 8, and April 4.  All students and Panola faculty are invited to participate.

In previous years, the Howl was run by SGA as an annual event, but  was handed over this past fall to the Media Arts Club who hosted it at the Dawg House.  Many of Panola’s best and brightest musical talent showed up to perform, including Shawn Simonson, Noah Butler, and a new band called Chasing Stable which includes Rachael Sutton, Rachael Gee, Sydney Gee.  In addition to the many student artists were a few faculty performances, most notably a two-man comedy skit by Brian Naples with the help of Simonson.

In fact, the high turnout impressed the proprietors enough to offer the Cafe as a monthly venue for future performances by the Media Arts Club.  All interested parties should contact Joanna Martell at (916)-741-9265.  They are also encouraged to attend the Media Arts Club meetings at the Rhea Art Building, wednesdays at 2 pm. for more information.  A sign-up sheet will be available at the venue that night for performers to sign up for time-slots.  Each performer will be announced in the order that they are listed.  Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at the Dawg House during the event.  Performers are encouraged to bring their own equipment, but may inquire with the club as to anything they may need.

Essentially, the Howl is an event that provides students with an opportunity to demonstrate and polish their skills as musicians, poets, and the like.  Again, any and all students are welcome to participate, regardless of skill level.  There are several fine arts events where students play, but only one event where they all come together with their own personal projects and masterpieces.  Only here, under the night, they Howl.
