Panola College invites the community to enjoy an afternoon of classic music performed by the Houston Boychoir on Sunday, Apr. 2, 2017, in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium at 2 p.m.
Houston Boychoir was established by the Houston Independent School District in 1962 as The Singing Boys of Houston. Becoming an independent arts organization in 1991, today Houston Boychoir continues to provide boys in the Houston Metropolitan area with the exciting opportunity for vocal music study and choral performance.
Houston Boychoir is a multi-tiered program from childhood to manhood, where boys create lifelong friendships and a sense of community, building character, developing life skills, and nurturing a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Committed to developing choirs representative of the diversity of the Harris County and greater Houston area they boast a strong scholarship base. The musical repertoire is widely varied and draws on literature from all styles, languages and periods of music history. Through the mastery and public performance of their music, the choristers develop discipline, confidence, and a loving understanding of art.
As the oldest organization of its kind for boys and music Houston Boychoir sets the level of excellence for educational outcomes in children’s performing ensembles. In addition to presenting concerts throughout the city, Houston Boychoir also collaborates performances with the Opera in the Heights, the Moores’ School of Music, Houston Bach Society, Hope Stone Dance and many more, making Houston Boychoir vital to Houston’s elite artistic profile. It most recently performed Mahler’s monumental 8th Symphony with the Houston Symphony Orchestra.
As one of the country’s premiere boychoirs, HBC serves as ambassadors, representing our city, state and nation during annual concert tours across North America, and throughout Europe and Asia, South Africa and most recently, Alaska. To learn more visit www.houstonboychoir.org.
