Panola College will hold Commencement at the Carthage Civic Center at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12. Of the 226 students earning diplomas and certificates this semester, 125 will participate in the commencement exercises.
Rebecca C. Brightwell will give the commencement address. She is a graduate of Panola College and now works as an attorney.
College administrators decided to move to the Carthage Civic Center for this event after having overflow attendance at previous graduation ceremonies held in the A.J. Johnson Gym. In past semesters, the College has used the Q.M. Martin Auditorium and a live video stream to accommodate the overflow crowd.
Graduates will earn degrees and certificates. Students who have achieved academic honors will be recognized as Summa Cum Laude (with highest distinction), Magna Cum Laude (with great distinction), and Cum Laude (with distinction.) Phi Theta Kappa Honor Fraternity members will wear gold cords designating them as PTK members.
The processional of administrators, faculty members and graduating students will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early enough to be seated and prepared for the beginning of the ceremony. The audience will be asked to hold applause until all graduates are announced so that each graduate’s name will be able to be heard when it is announced.
