College holds 70th commencement

Graduate Sarah Jones, left, is congratulated by Chris Blair, math instructor.

State Representative-Elect Chris Paddie spoke at the 70th Panola College Commencement on Thursday, Dec. 13, in the A.J. Johnson Gym. Paddie encouraged the graduates to seek opportunities for service as they enter their careers.

Sandra Bauer directed the Panola College Chorale in the singing of the College Alma Mater. Don Cocklin gave the invocation and Dr. Gregory Powell introduced Paddie.

Dr. Joe Shannon certified the graduates and Dr. Powell conferred degrees. Nursing and health career graduates were pinned by Joselyn Sullen, ADN graduates; Annissa Jackson, VN graduates; Cheri Lambert, OTA graduates; and JoEllen Russell, HITT graduates.

Students who achieved high academic standing were recognized as Phi Theta Kappa, cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude. Graduates received either associate degrees or certificates of completion.

I am nursing major and i would like to know is does the ADN program have a pinning ceremony for their graduates.

Nursing graduates will be pinned during the Commencement ceremony. The student’s name is announced, Dr. Powell presents the diploma, and then the student receives his or her pin from the nursing faculty.
