Academic Excellence Winners Announced
On April 23, Panola College faculty and staff gathered with students and parents to celebrate this year’s nominees for Academic Excellence awards. Retired professor Chuck Moore spoke to the group of having dreams and then working to make those dreams reality. Following Mr. Moore’s speech, Professors Don Cocklin and Teresa Brooks presented Academic Excellence Awards to 19 students whose major fields of study included Health Information Technology, Government, Nursing, Instrumental Music, Art, Accounting, Computer Information Technology, Communications, Spanish, Biology, Math, English and Psychology/Sociology, Occupational Therapy, Education, Criminal Justice, Online Nursing, Petroleum Technology, and Business.
“To qualify for this award a student must be nominated by a professor. They must have completed either six hours in the field they to which they are nominated or have completed three hours and be in the process of finishing the second course with a GPA in the concentration of study of 3.5 with an cumulative overall GPA of 2.5.,” said Professor Don Cocklin. “We are certainly proud to recognize the effort each of these students has brought to their studies and the attitude towards learning that they bring to the college.” Additional pictures from the event are available on the Panola College Alumni’ Association’s Facebook page.
